Yesterday I had lunch with one of the staff at MEMORY CARE, an organization in Asheville designed to serve dementia patients, their caregivers and families. Staffed by physicians and social workers, they serve as a model being studied by other communities. They provide caregiver training, counseling and support, and offer educational workshops and a resource center with materials available to the public. My sister suffers from Lewy Body Dementia, and they have been very helpful to me. While writing Weaving Prayer Into the Tapestry of Life, I kept thinking that a resource for prayer for caregivers and families of dementia patients with prayers that help with expression of their unique situation would be helpful. I shared this idea with three of the staff before lunch was over. They were enthusiastic. But we are all busy now. We put the idea on our back burners to simmer for a while. If anyone seeing this blog is interested in this idea, and would like to check for interest with anyone you know, please let me know. Part of the “simmering” process now would be to see if there is interest. Please let me know!
