I plan to use this blog – among other things – to keep on writing /adding to Weaving Prayer Into the Tapestry of Life”. I find it hard to turn off the creative juices just because the book is printed! For instance: My pastor quoted a poem yesterday in his CaringBridge enewsletter about his recent cancer diagnosis. It is about a thread and in my mind it fit in perfectly with Chapter 2 “The Thread of Prayer”. The poem is about the challenge during the hard times that are part of weaving a life tapestry, The poem, “The Way It Is” is the title piece in New and Selected Poems by William Stafford. Guy has found this helpful “in giving voice to his feelings”. I am going to slip a copy some place in chapter 2 in the book I use. I may even buy Staffford’s book in case it is all this good.
There is a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold to it you can’t get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die, and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
Isn’t that wonderful?
